HORIZONTAL DRILLING
In developing the James Lime formation it is imperative that micro fracturing is encountered within the rock in order for successful production to take place. If you drill vertically only, you would have to bull’s eye the portion of the rock that is fractured in order to have any hope of success. Even then there may not be enough fracturing to ensure a successful well. However when you drill horizontally, you greatly increase your chances of encountering several fractured portions of the rock resulting in an accumulation of fractures or “shows” that when combined make for a very good commercial well. This has been proven since the first well was drilled in 1999 in Shelby County, Texas.
